Our customers moved into a house with polished black kitchen floor tiles and high gloss white cabinetry. They loved their beautiful, stylish new home, but felt the kitchen was a little dated. So, they asked us to design and build them a new one.
Although the room is a very large, open space, the old kitchen was lacking in worktop surface and storage space. There also was a standalone, structural, support pillar in the middle of the room, that we had to accommodate. Our brief, then, was to design a timeless, functional classic kitchen, incorporating a large range cooker. We were also asked to design a sweeping kitchen island to unify the furniture and the support pillar.
Classic kitchens are best designed with symmetry and simplicity in mind. So, the location of the new range cooker, together with the sink located in front of the window, were the starting points for the new layout. We introduced a drinks’ making area away from the food preparation space. This would allow members of the family to use the kitchen without being in each other’s way.
The contrasting island offers plenty of storage space, as well as generous seating for 4 people. It also features another classic detail by way of its decorative sculptured plinth.
Our team had their work cut out as we first had to remove the old kitchen and utility room furniture. We had to re-configure the multilayered ceiling and replace the flooring throughout 4 rooms. And finally, before we could start the new kitchen, we had to relocate a radiator and install new internal doors. The initial part of the works, before we were able to start the installation of the new kitchen took 7 working days. We were then able to take delivery of the custom-made cabinets and the appliances and begin building the new kitchen.
This elegant new kitchen is the result of different trades working together to create an interior space that combines quality materials and clever design.
