Our brief on this project was to design and fit a brand-new kitchen in this compact space. Luckily the design team at Holmewood have a lot of experience designing kitchens for some very small spaces. As a result, we know all the technologies and innovations that are available and how they can be integrated.
For this room, we had to find space for a hob, oven, fridge/freezer, washing machine, built-in microwave and integrated dishwasher.
Gas Hob vs Induction Hob
Some people like the direct heat and visible flame from a gas hob as it is easy to control. Others like the speed of an induction hob, taking less than half the time to heat a pan of water. The dial knobs on a gas hob do give greater control than induction hobs, which can be fiddly when wet. However, induction hobs are much easier to clean as they consist of a smooth, flat surface. They are also much more energy efficient as the heat is generated directly in the base of the pan.
There are pros and cons of each type of hob, but what if you can’t decide? The answer is simple; why not have both? This kitchen is fitted with two half size hobs, side by side. On the left is a Siemens 300mm wide Domino gas hob. And on the right is a Siemens 300mm wide Domino induction hob.
So, for heating water quickly, poaching eggs, making sauces or slow cooking, you might choose the induction hob. But for stir-frying, wok cooking or cooking with wide-based pans, you might choose the gas hob.
Shaker Style
The cabinetry in this kitchen is fronted with 5-Piece shaker doors in sage green with a woodgrain effect. It is a very popular style of door, used in many kitchens to give a timeless, traditional feel. It is a style that works in many colours and fits with all manner of handles, flooring and worktops. In this case the sage green compliments the white laminate worktop, white Silgranit sink and white metro-tiled splashback.
We managed to fit in as much storage space as we could into this kitchen, including an open corner unit. Open corner units not only offer an attractive visual element to a room, but provide an accessible storage solution.
This kitchen also benefits from an integrated bin. These are great for decluttering your kitchen and hiding away unsightly waste. They create cleaner kitchens and allow you to separate your household waste and recyclable waste with ease.
