A newly fitted kitchen with Reed Green and White Porcelain coloured doors and a White Nova Quartz worktop.

These customers recently moved to Horsham, having downsized to a bungalow. The move meant that they had inherited a tired looking kitchen that was poorly designed. What’s more, it didn’t offer the space and storage that the couple needed.

The room had not one, but two back doors, so we suggested turning one of them into a window. This allowed us to design a layout with a lot more flow to the room. We could position the elements of the kitchen a more practical way and make working in the kitchen more enjoyable.

We were able to organise all aspects of this project from beginning to end. The first thing we did was to remove one of the back doors and install the new window. Next, we carried out the electrical work to suit the new layout, before plastering and decorating the room. The final preparation was the new LVT wood-effect flooring that was laid to bring warmth into the room.

As the couple were really lacking in storage, our interior designer proposed some tall cabinets to help declutter the room.  We positioned them all on the same wall away from the windows to prevent any light from getting blocked. One of the cabinets was even designed with an internal vertical split to house not just internal drawers but also a broom and vacuum cleaner.

Our customers were hoping that the new kitchen would be able to accommodate a new American style fridge/freezer as they like to store a lot of fresh food. So, we suggested an extra-large, fully integrated fridge freezer instead. Their “new to the market” Bosch appliance comprises an extra-large fridge capacity and a frost-free freezer. This sizable fridge freezer is hiding behind 750mm wide doors and boasts a hight of 1935mm. It offers 20% more food storage space than traditional integrated appliances.

A Light and Airy Space

We moved the oven from its old location and integrated into the tall cabinets, conveniently close to the work surface. The worktop itself is White Nova Quartz by Königstone and features specs of sparkly mirror to reflect the light.

To compliment the worktop, we paired simple slab doors in Reed Green with handleless wall cabinets in Porcelain. This texture and colour combination was designed to bring interest into the room whilst maximising the feeling of space.

We deliberately left the wall between the newly created window and the back door with no wall units. The reason for this was to make the kitchen feel light and uncluttered.

Part of the brief for the new room was to allow space for the main dining table. We therefore introduced a kitchen peninsula to separate the cooking area from the dining area.
